Sterling Silver - Over time your solid (925) sterling silver jewelry that you purchase from Feeding On Frost may seem dull or tarnished, and if this is the case, cleaning your jewelry is super easy to do. Just mix a small mixture of warm water, baking soda, and dish soap in a bowl. use an old soft bristled toothbrush to gently clean any gunk or buildup off the jewelry. Try not to be rough with it, and try to not use a hard bristled brush. After you have washed your jewelry, use a polishing cloth to bring back a polished shine to your jewelry. You can purchase a jewelry polishing cloth here.

Solid Gold - You may use the same instructions noted above for your solid gold Feeding On Frost jewelry.

Brass - You may use the same instructions noted above for your solid brass Feeding On Frost jewelry.

Gold Filled - We advise using the baking soda and dish soap treatment mentioned above for your gold filled jewelry. If your gold filled jewelry is in need of a good polish, use a polishing cloth very gently, but try not to use this method too often on gold filled jewelry.

How do I clean my Feeding On Frost jewelry?

If you own any solid sterling silver jewelry, you may notice over time it appears darker or “tarnished”. This is simply due to a reaction between silver and oxygen, called oxidization. This is extremely common and we often explain this by using the example of looking at your silverware/silver cutlery, as this usually needs to be cleaned before being used due to its appearance being sometimes darker than when you first purchased it. All that this means is when you see your silver looking dull or darker, it is time for your jewelry to be cleaned.

See the above section on how to do this. If you ever are unsure about how to clean your jewelry, reach out to us here.

I have a jewelry dip/liquid cleaner, why can’t I just use that?

Large scale manufacturing companies often sell jewelry dip/liquid cleaners. These liquid (or sometimes powder) cleaners are often filled with chemicals, and over time they can corrode and eat away at your metal. I do not advise using dips, liquids, or anything containing harsh chemicals on your jewelry. Always read the directions, and the ingredients/warning labels before using any cleaners on your jewelry, especially if you have precious gemstones in your jewelry. Chemical cleaners can cause damage to your gemstones.
